Heath and Melissa Bain, RV Tour Spokespersons

Melissa was born and raised in Muscle Shoals, AL. With strong musical influence around her from childhood, she began singing onstage at age 7. While in college, she traveled overseas with the USO to perform for troops stationed in Spain, Portugal, the Azores Islands, Italy, Greece, and Turkey. Upon returning home, she toured with a small jazz band, while finishing her degree in Entertainment Industry Publicity and Promotions from the University of North Alabama. After graduation, she taught voice at a private studio and began performing solo acoustic shows regularly in venues around the Shoals area. Currently, Melissa is finishing work on her debut EP, Walking In Sunshine, due out in April.

The best part of working with Soles4Souls for Melissa is the opportunity to help meet the immense need for something as simple as shoes. “Seeing firsthand the condition of Haiti, changed my view on ‘helping people’. To see a need and meet it is not a luxury; it’s a responsibility. And a beautiful one at that.”

Heath is also from Muscle Shoals, AL. Before coming to Soles4Souls, he traveled across the US and abroad working as a guitarist for numerous bands and artists. In addition, he has taught guitar for over twelve years, and he worked in the school systems teaching music at an alternative school for eight years, directing a high school choir, teaching in elementary schools, and tutoring English. He is a house writer for Avalon Avenue Music out of Muscle Shoals. He has song credits on BJ Thomas’ latest album recorded at Wishbone Studio in Muscle Shoals and also on the soundtrack of the movie Doonby to be released in May 2011. Heath is currently pursuing a graduate degree in theology from Lipscomb University, and he believes that there is no greater ambition than that of helping someone in need.

“I think most people truly want to help make the world a better place; they just don’t really know how, don’t know where to start. When we begin to consider the magnitude of need and suffering all around us, it’s just too easy to think that there is nothing that we as individuals can do about it. I grateful for the opportunity to travel around the country and introduce to young people some ways that they can get involved and make an impact.”

Heath and Melissa were married on November 6th, 2010, and will spend their first year together as newlyweds, traveling the country on the Soles4Souls University RV Tour.
